Air Filters

Air filters keep harmful, abrasive dust and dirt particles out of the engine where it can do a lot of damage. It takes only a few grams of dust to render a modern engine out of order. Proper filtration of your air cleaner can stop lengthy breakdowns and expensive engine rebuilds.

Fuel Filters

Diesel is the most commonly used fuel in heavy duty applications and requires filtering to ensure that any contaminants have been removed before they can cause stoppages, or serious damage resulting in complete failure, to the diesel system components. In-line fuel elements can stop the larger, damaging contaminants such as rust and sediment from the fuel tank entering the fuel system. Diesel filters are important as they have to protect the fuel pump and injectors not only from abrasive particles but also from minute droplets of water often found in diesel fuel. Injectors and diesel pumps are precision machined components and are very costly to repair or replace. It is much more cost effective to change the filters at their regular service intervals rather than have to pay the cost of even one breakdown repair bill.

Oil Filters

While oil is primarily used to lubricate and cool moving parts of an engine it also carries out another very important function: that of transferring any harmful abrasive particles to the sump. These particles must be removed before the oil can circulate around the lubrication system again. An efficient way of removing these particles, preventing unnecessary wear or damage, is to pass the oil through a filter before it reaches any of the critical moving parts.

Transmission Filters

The automatic transmission is a mechanical wonder in its design and function, in essence a self lubricating hydraulic pump. The fluid follows a pre-determined path under hydraulic pressure, creating what is called a “fluid coupling” or link between the engine and transmission, propelling the car forward. In order for all this to happen, the fluid must be clean and flow freely. The transmission filter plays a major role in keeping the fluid clean of debris such as dirt, sludge, and clutch material. If the filter gets clogged, the flow of fluid is inhibited, the pressure lowers, the fluid breaks down, and friction and heat build up. This debilitating process affects the performance of the transmission or worse the transmission can fail, which can be exceptionally costly.

Hydraulic Filters

Clean hydraulic oil is an essential part of your hydraulic system to ensure maximum efficiency and avoid unnecessary wear and tear on your machineries hydraulic circuit and ram. High performance is assured with simple maintenance of your filters. This also extends the useful life of the hydraulic oil.

Coolant.

Manufacturers of engines recommend that you use a fully formulated coolant in your engine. These formulas contain the appropriate amounts of glycol, de-ionising water and coolant additives for optimum performance. To maintain your fluid in it’s optimum state it also requires filtering to remove any particles that could damage the workings of the cooling system. At Sterling Filtration we offer a range of spin on coolant filters for many different applications.
